Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) general secretary and spokesperson Shreemayee Mishra has been suspended from the party for anti-party activities with immediate effect.
As general secretary of the party’s women’s wing, Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), Shreemayee Mishra’s recent comments on social media drew attention to internal party affairs, sparking controversy.
Along with Mishra, Subas Chandra Sai, former block president of Kaptipada, Prabir Chandra Sai, former district secretary of Mayurbhanj have been also suspended from the party.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced the suspension of the three leaders through a press release.
Reacting strongly to the party action, Mishra wrote on her social media handle that she can’t compromise her self-respect and dignity for any reason.
“I have not reconciled with my self-respect and dignity, nor will I. It’s not less than a joke that I am suspended from a party in which I haven’t been a member for a long time and haven’t renewed my membership. How far is it from the public’s mind to play with the dignity of an Odia girl, a leader who has ruled Odisha for many years at the instigation of a non-Odia? The son of a statesman who calls for respect and dignity for women has proved today that he is not capable of taking decisions on his own. I do not think it is right to sacrifice my self-respect for being an Odia girl,” Mishra mentioned in her Facebook account.
Recently, former Odisha minister and senior BJD leader Prafulla Kumar Mallik was suspended for similar reasons.
