Berhampur: In a major development in the police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam leak case, the Berhampur JMFC (Rural) Court has granted the Crime Branch five days’ remand of the key accused, Shankar Prusty, and Silicon Techlab head Suresh Chandra Nayak.

The Crime Branch had sought seven days’ remand, but the court approved a five-day period to facilitate further interrogation.

According to reports, Shankar Prusty, believed to be the mastermind behind the question paper leak, was arrested from the Nepal border in Uttarakhand on Saturday. He was produced before the court on Monday. The second accused, Suresh Chandra Nayak, chief of Bhubaneswar-based Silicon Techlab Pvt. Ltd., was also produced before the same court later in the evening.

Prusty’s lawyer, Anil Kumar Panda, had moved a bail petition, which was rejected by the court. Both accused have been sent to Berhampur jail and will be taken on remand for further investigation into the alleged recruitment scam that has rocked the state’s police selection process.

The Crime Branch has already conducted face-to-face interrogations of the duo and is expected to trace the larger network involved in the racket.
