**Balasore:** A 45-year-old sub-inspector (SI) was found hanging from the ceiling of his quarters at the police barracks here on Wednesday just two days after the death of his friend and Basta Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kuanr Majhi in a road accident.
The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Nayak.
A suicide note was found in the room in which he mentioned that he took the extreme step due to mental stress and work pressure, police said.
According to reports, Nayak had gone to Basta PS to hand over some pending cases and was staying with his friend and ASI Kuanr Mahji.
Worth mentioning, Majhi had died in a road accident near Basta on Monday night while he was on duty.
Reports further stated that Nayak was seen inside the PS premises at around 9 am today while his body was found at 12 noon.
Though the exact reason behind his suicide is yet to be known, some of his colleagues, on condition of anonymity, said that Nayak was in duress as he did not get his salary as the cases were pending.
He was transferred from Basta PS to Mangalpur PS in Jajpur in December, 2015.
Meanwhile, the local police sent the body to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem and began an investigation.
