Bhubaneswar: The sibling deities will be adorned in a golden attire tonight on the occasion of holy Dola Purnima today.
Dola Utsav, a 7-day festival, is observed in the temple, beginning on the 10th day of Phalguna’s bright fortnight and concluding on the first day of Chaitra. The festivities culminate on Dola Purnima, when Lord Jagannath and His siblings are adorned in golden attire, known as Suna Besha or Rajadhiraja Besha or Rajarajeswari Besha.
Worth mentioning, the Suna Besha on Dola Purnima is one of the five golden attire ceremonies for Lord Jagannath and His siblings annually. Typically, thousands flock to the temple for a glimpse of the deities in this spectacular attire. Due to a lunar eclipse, the ceremony will be held tonight instead of daytime, with Lord Jagannath and His siblings being adorned in golden attire, making for a unique and memorable sight for devotees.
Due to lunar eclipse, the temple doors opened at 1 am, and Mangala Alati was performed. After Abakasha Puja ritual, Mekap rituals were performed. On this occasion, Khaikora Bhoga was offered to the deities following which the idols of Dolagobinda, Lakshmi, and Saraswati were taken in a procession on a palanquin accompanied by devotees playing Holi.
Devotees believe that seeing Lord Jagannath in the Suna Besha brings prosperity and divine blessings.
