Siblings Die Due To Delayed Treatment After Being Bitten By Snake In Nabarangapur

Bhubaneswar: Two siblings died after being bitten by a snake at Rajpur village under Umerkote block in Nabarangapur district.

The victims, identified as Ruturaj Harijan and his sister Amita Harijan, were bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping last night. Instead of taking them to doctors, their family reportedly took them to a traditional healer, which proved fatal. When their condition worsened, they were taken to Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital. By the time, they were taken to the hospital, it was too late and the doctor declared them dead.

Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), meanwhile, attributed the delayed medical treatment to the death of siblings.

“Even today, due to lack of awareness people still rely on traditional healers rather than medical facilities. There is a need for awareness in rural areas,” emphasized the CDMO.
