Bhubaneswar: Two siblings were killed when a pickup van hit the motorcycle they were riding on JKPur-Kalyansingpur road in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Bulu Beniya (37) and Manoj Beniya (25), residents of Rampur village in Karlakana panchayat under Kolnara block in Rayagada district.
According to police, the mishap occurred when the duo was returning home after finishing some work in Rayagada town in the evening.
The speeding pickup van hit the motorcycle head-on. Bulu and Manoj died on the spot, sources said.
On being informed, a police team led by Chandili Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Yashwant Hial reached the spot and seized the pickup van. However, the driver managed to escape.
Seeking adequate compensation and stern action against the driver of the pickup van, the victims’ family members along with local villagers staged a road blockade on the spot.
Vehicular traffic on JKPur-Kalyansingpur road was halted for several hours due to the agitation and traffic was eased only after assurance from the authorities that they would consider the demands.
