Bhubaneswar: Orissa High Court Chief Justice Subhasis Talapatra on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Sibo Sankar Mishra and Ananda Charan Behera as judges of the High Court. With the new appointments, the total strength of judges in the Orissa High Court rose to 22.
It is worth mentioning here that President Droupadi Murmu, in exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India appointed Supreme Court advocate Mishra and judicial officer Behera as judges of Orissa High Court on Saturday last.
In August this year, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the names of advocate Sibo Sankar Mishra and judicial officer Ananda Chandra Behera for appointment as judges in the Orissa High Court.
In a resolution published on the Supreme Court website, the Collegium noted that the government gave good inputs on the personal and professional aspects of advocate Mishra and judicial officer Behera.
With regard to advocate Mishra, the resolution noted that he has a standing of 30 years at the Bar and is an advocate-on-record in the Supreme Court for the Odisha government.
Mishra is the founder of the legal firm S S Mishra and Associates and has appeared and argued independently cases of various statutes mainly, arbitration, criminal, civil, service, and revenue matters before the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court and other High Courts. He has appeared in more than 150 cases. He has handled cases before various FORAs such as the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, NCLT, NCLAT, Debt Recovery Tribunals, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, NGT, PMLA, and other Special Courts (as well as Trial Courts in Delhi), judicial and quasi-judicial forums.
Mishra has also assisted Justice Deoki Nandan Agrawal, one of the plaintiffs out of five suits filed in the Ramjanam Bhoomi case.
On the other hand, Ananda Chandra Behera has served as a judicial officer in different capacities for several years.
