Keonjhar: A two-year-old baby elephant, separated rangga.blog from its herd, died due to illness despite prompt treatment and care by the forest department in Telkoi area of Keonjhar district on Saturday.
On September 9, the forest department rescued the sick elephant from Krishnapur Reserve Forest under Telkoi Forest range. The jumbo had roamed near the village after being separated from its 21-member herd.
Rescue teams transported the elephant to Bandhanjhar Forest Beat House for treatment. A medical team provided treatment and care, but unfortunately, the elephant’s condition deteriorated as it was unable to eat food.
Telkoi Range Officer confirmed the elephant’s death at 2 PM today. The cause of death was attributed to severe illness due to hunger.
