Bhubaneswar: The bag and mobile phone of Odisha BJP leader Itishree Jena, who had gone missing along with her family members in a car crash in Sikkim’s North District, have been recovered from the Teesta River. Along with the bag, six mobile phones belonging to the tourists were also recovered.
The car carrying the BJP Mahila Morcha secretary, Itishree Jena and her family members had plunged into the Teesta River, leaving eight people, including Jena, feared dead. The tourists were travelling from Lachen to Lachung in the Mangan district of North Sikkim when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the river. While Jena’s son and son-in-law were rescued, the whereabouts of Jena remain unknown.
According to reports, rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals. Despite extensive search operations, no bodies have been found yet. Two people have been confirmed dead in the accident, while eight others, including Jena, are still missing.
As per Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s instruction, a special team has been sent to Sikkim to aid in the rescue efforts. The state government is working closely with Sikkim authorities to locate the missing individuals.
