Bhubaneswar: Condemning the horrific rape and murder of a second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar and MKCG Medical College and Hospital took out a silent rally on Monday evening demanding stern action against the accused involved in the gruesome crime.
The students’ union of AIIMS decided to launch a silent rally so that patients would not suffer while students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital staged a protest only by wearing black badges in the larger interest of the patients.
Apart from action against the accused, the protesting doctors have demanded safety for doctors who are working round-the-clock to serve ailing persons.
Meanwhile, SCB Medical College and Hospital have come forward to hold a candlelight rally on Tuesday evening. As part of the protests, the on-duty doctors wore black badges.
Meanwhile, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) called for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services from today to protest the incident.
It is pertinent to mention that the semi-naked body of the doctor was recovered at City Hospital on August 9. The postgraduate medical student was found dead at the seminar hall in the hospital.
