Puri: With the Puri Srimandir’s Holy Trinity away in the Gundicha Temple for a week, work on the silver cladding of the Singha Dwara, the main entrance of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, began on Thursday morning.
The existing brass-clad Singha Dwara was removed on Wednesday and replaced by a temporary door.
On Wednesday, a steel frame for the door reached the temple. A Burma teak wood door will be fastened to the steel frame and it will then be clad with silver. The silver for the door has been donated by a devotee in Mumbai. The new silver-clad door of Singha Swara will showcase the traditional designs of Odisha art.
According to an artisan from Mumbai, The door made of four-inch-width Burma teak wood will be fixed onto the steel frame and then it will be clad with silver plates with designs and symbols like conch and lotus. Moreover, the door will have balls and bearings to give it longevity.
Work on the silver cladding of the door at Singha Dwara will be completed before Bahuda Yatra – the return of the three deities from the Gundicha Temple.
