Bhubaneswar: In a bid to boost the tiger population and prevent inbreeding, Similipal Tiger Reserve is set to welcome another female tiger from Maharashtra’s Tadoba Jungle.
A 10-member team from Similipal has left for Tadoba to bring the tigress, which is expected to arrive within the next week. The team will monitor the tigress’s movements and ensure a safe transfer, said sources.
This development comes after the successful introduction of tigress Jamuna from Tadoba on August 28. Yamuna has already started hunting and eating well in her new enclosure. Currently, Odisha has 30 tigers, with 27 residing in Similipal Tiger Reserve. Among these, 13 are melanistic tigers.
