Balasore: In a major breakthrough, Simulia Police arrested three members of a dacoity gang during a late-night patrol and seized arms, explosives, stolen ornaments, and a motorcycle from their possession.
According to the police, a police patrol team from Simulia police station received a tip-off on Friday night that 7–8 individuals had gathered near Hasua bridge and were planning a dacoity in a nearby village.
Acting swiftly, the patrolling team informed the IIC and surrounded the spot. While three accused were caught, four others managed to escape.
During the operation, police recovered a sword, two live bombs, iron rods, and other incriminating materials.
At a press briefing, Sadar SDPO Shubhranshu Shekhar Nayak and Simulia IIC Shrabana Kumar Maharana informed that the arrested individuals are locals from the Simulia area and were previously involved in several dacoity cases in Soro, Simulia, and Basudevpur.
Further investigation revealed that the gang had sold stolen ornaments to a local jeweller, from whom police later seized about 900 grams of silver ornaments.
Police have also seized the motorcycle used by the gang during their operations. “We have registered a case and investigation is continuing to trace the absconding accused,” SDPO Nayak added.
