Cuttack: An important meeting of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising various departments of the Central and state governments to unearth black money stashed in the country and abroad was held on Tuesday at the residence of Justice Arijit Pashayat in Telanga Bazar in Cuttack.
Justice Pashayat, vice chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting. Today’s meeting was attended by senior officials of the Income Tax department, ED, GST Central Office, and Narcotics department. The meeting is significant in the context of the ensuing general elections in 2024.
The meeting discussed the black money invested in mining educational institutes, and other sectors. As the general elections are around the corner, several issues, including the money distributed by various political parties to lure voters, the illegal money invested in the drug trade, and the black money involved in various transactions by criminals in the state and outside, were discussed. Officials from Delhi and Bhubaneswar Income Tax departments, CBI, Trade Tax department, Central Excise, Mines and Prosecution attended the meeting. Prominent among them were senior EPS Arun Bothra, Rahul Naveen of ED, and Ganeshwar Singh of the Narcotics department.
