Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, at least seven persons were killed and four injured, two of them critical, after a vehicle transporting a marriage party plunged into Gham Canal in Odisha’s Sambalpur district in the wee hours of Friday.
The police recovered six bodies early on Friday morning, while the body of another passenger who was reported to be missing was found later in the morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ajit Khamari, Divya Loha, Saroj Seth, Sumant Bhoi, Subrata Bhoi and Ramakant Bhoi. The identity of the seventh deceased is yet to be ascertained. The injured have been admitted to the Sambalpur Hospital.
According to reports, a marriage party from Laddhara village in Jharsuguda district had gone to the Parmanpur area under Gham police station limits in Sambalpur. On the way back, the driver of the vehicle lost control of the wheel and the vehicle plunged into Gham Canal resulting in the death of six persons. The mishap occurred around 2.30 am on Friday.
On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the vehicle from the canal and started an investigation into the mishap.
