Bhubaneswar: As many as six persons were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Odisha’s Pipili, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal.
According to reports, a trailer carrying asbestos sheets crashed into a tractor and overturned into a house at Hatibari village in Dhenkanal district, killing one person and injuring the driver and helper.
The deceased, Asthir Tarai, was asleep in the house when the accident occurred. The trailer was heading from Mandar to Karamula when it lost balance due to high speed and crashed. The driver and helper are being treated at a local hospital.
Two persons were killed in a bike accident in Nayagarh district’s Bhapur block when the vehicle hit a tree. The victims, Beer Kishore Dhal and Sankar Biswal, were from Kalatangi village. They were returning from Mardrajpur village when the accident occurred. Locals took them to Khandapara Hospital, where they were declared dead. Police have seized the bike and are investigating.
Two bike riders were killed and one person critically injured in a crash involving a Hyva truck on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway near Dandamukundapur bypass in Pipili last night. The victims’ identities are yet to be confirmed. The injured person has been shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a youth died in a road accident on National Highway-16 near Gudiadhipa at Khallikote in Ganjam district after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established.
In a separate incident in Keonjhar, a truck parked on the 49 National Highway near Turumunga in Keonjhar district was hit by another truck from behind, severely injuring the driver who was trapped inside. Locals rescued him and shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital via ambulance. The parked truck had brake failure, and neither NH officials nor local police took steps to remove it, leading to the accident at late night.
A tipper carrying stones overturned near Kendukhunta junction under Nilgiri police limits, severely injuring the driver. The vehicle was moving at high speed, likely due to illegal stone transportation, when it lost balance and overturned around 4 am. Locals rescued the driver and took him to Nilgiri Hospital.
