Sundargarh: The scrub typhus cases in Sundargarh district mounted to 361 with six more people being infected with the disease.
Out of 43 blood samples sent for examination, six were found positive in the last 24 hours, a health official said.`
At least eight people in Odisha died due to the infection so far, Health director Dr Niranjan Mishra said. The infection spreads through bites of infected chiggers.
Several other districts in the State have reported the cases.
The Odisha Government directed district health authorities to increase the surveillance and testing for seasonal upsurge of Scrub Typhus in the state.
The most common symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, headache, body aches, and sometimes rash.
