**Bhubaneswar:** The bankers at the 152nd State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) Meeting held here today have made a commitment to activate banking operations in the Titli-affected districts, said Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Behera said, there is a need for improvement in banking sector after the devastation caused by very severe cyclonic storm Titli and activating the bank operations in the affected districts has been a priority.
Discussions were today held on the improvement in banking sectors especially about connectivity and setting up of brick and mortar branches in every panchayats as around 70 per cent of panchayats still lack such facility, he added.
The Minister informed that Odisha Government has expressed its concern towards it and work in this regard has already started.
Action taken on the commitment made in today’s quarterly meeting will be evaluated in the next meeting, which will be held very soon, said Behera. He was also hopeful that today’s meeting will create new ventures for future improvement.
It is worthwhile to mention that the SLBC was constituted in Odisha to act as a consultative and coordination body of all financial institutions operating in the State.
The committee is expected to discuss issues, consider alternative solutions to the various problems in the field of banking development and evolve a consensus for coordinated action by the member institutions.
