Smartphones Banned For Servitors In Puri Temple

**Bhubaneswar**: In the wake of a selfie taken by a youth claiming to be a servitor in Puri Jagannath Temple, the Chhatisha Niyog (priests’ body) decided to put a ban on the use of smartphones by anyone in the temple premises.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pradeep Jena, the Chief of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) where it was decided that the servitors will use only the basic phones, not any smart phones within the temple premises.

According to Pradeep Jena, “We have planned to introduce Closed User Groups (CUG) system for the servitors, and it will be discussed with the mobile operators soon.”

Moreover, it was also decided that special logos approved and given by the SJTA will be put on the mobile phones of the servitors.

The meeting also discussed the timings of the rituals during the auspicious Kartik month, and the timely serving of the Prasad to the deities, so that the devotees get the Mahaprasad in time.
