Baripada: A 45-year-old man and his five-year-old son died after they were bitten by a poisonous snake at Pratap Chandrapur village under Kohira Panchayat in Mayurbhanj district, on Wednesday.
According to reports, Harekrushna Mukhi (45), a sweeper at Baghda Hospital in Suliapada block, and his 5-year-old son Kishan Mukhi were asleep in their quarters when they were bitten by the venomous snake. The snake bite went unnoticed by Harekrushna, who later fell ill while taking his son to the hospital.
Despite efforts to save them, both Harekrushna and Kishan succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and have been returned to their ancestral home in Pratap Chandrapur village, where the family is mourning their loss.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with the family and relatives struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
It is pertinent to mention that Harekrushna was the sole breadwinner of the family, and his death has left his wife and two daughters in a state of distress.
Meanwhile, a case of unnatural death has been registered at Suliapada police station, and an investigation is underway.
