Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek today said that the police have not found any clue on ragging so far during the course of their investigation into the death of Ruchika Mohanty, the Plus III first year student of BJB Autonomous College, who allegedly committed suicide in her room at Karubaki Hostel.
“In our investigation so far her family members, her friends in her village, her close relatives, and other 1st year students staying in the hostel have not provided any clue on ragging. During interrogation, none have admitted to ragging taking place in the college. No students have given us any clue that Ruchika was under depression,” the DCP said addressing a presser here today.
Singh informed that as of now the police in their investigation have interrogated and examined from all angles 198 students of the concerned hostel, deceased Ruchika’s friends in her village, her close relatives, and hostel & college staff.
All have been included under the purview of the investigation, Singh added.
He said that it being a sensitive and serious case, the police at the outset formed three teams for the investigation which comprise cyber experts, technical experts and others who work as one team.
IIC, Badagada is himself the Investigating Officer (IO) in the case and a police officer of ADCP rank is supervising it, he added.
“We are trying to retrieve data without losing any critical information from the mobile phone that was found in Ruchika’s room. But we have not been successful in opening that phone, we are sending it to Singapore for opening it and as well as conduct further examination,” clarified Singh.
He informed that the police have released a new phone number 7077798111 through which anyone can inform the police of any kind of evidence pertaining to the Ruchika case.
Ruchika Mohanty was a student of Plus III, Arts at BJB Autonomous College here. She was staying on campus in Karubakki Hostel of the institution.
Her body was found hanging in the hostel room on July 2.
A suicide note purportedly written by her was found in the room in which she had alleged that she was taking the extreme step as mental harassment by three of her seniors had become unbearable for her.
