Nuapada: A Special Operation Group (SOG) jawan, who had sustained critical bullet injuries during an encounter with the outlawed Maoists at Sunabeda sanctuary in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Monday, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Raipur and his condition is stated to be critical, informed Nuapada Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra on Monday.
Addressing mediapersons following the mishap, SP Raghavendra said, “The SOG jawan identified as Prakash Sai has received bullets during an encounter with the ultras at Sunabeda sanctuary at 3 am. Maoists opened fire at jawans when the latter were engaged in a combing operation in the sanctuary injuring Prakash. The jawans retaliated injuring a few ultras. The jawans also seized 10 improvised explosive devices and a pistol. Apart from SOG jawans, CRPF personnel and Cobra teams have been engaged in the combing operation.”
The encounter was underway at the time of writing this report.
