Bhubaneswar: One among two gangrape accused who was absconding for around three decades was finally nabbed from Hyderabad and another has been traced in Odisha after the son of the survivor traced his mother and encouraged her to seek justice.
The accused persons have been identified as two brothers Mohammed Razi and Naqi Hasan. They had gang-raped the woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur in 1994 when she was just 12. When she got pregnant, she was forced to give up her son for adoption and was threatened by the accused not to file an FIR.
However, she was tracked down by her son in 2021 and with his encouragement, she sought justice. On March 4, 2021, an FIR was registered at Shahjahanpur on the orders of the court.
After an extensive probe, police managed to track the brothers who were staying in Haddaf area of the city. They denied knowing the woman but the police decided to conduct a DNA test. Samples were sent to a lab in July 2021 and results came positive in April 2022. They established that Razi was the biological father of the survivor’s son.
Cops obtained a warrant from the court to arrest the brothers but the two had disappeared by then. Multiple teams were formed to search for the two accused. Razi was finally found in Hyderabad where he was working at a thermal power plant. Efforts are underway to nab Hasan who is reportedly in Odisha.
