Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a son beat his father to death on Saturday night in Bentpada village under Athagarh police station.
The deceased has been identified as Balunkeshwar Mohanty (75) of Bentpada village, while the accused is his son Aparti Mohanty.
According to the deceased’s son-in-law Purna Chandra Mohapatra, Arpati was a drug addict. He was under treatment for a long time for his mental ailment. Balunkeshwar’s family members have accused Aparti of killing his father because he did not give the latter money for the drug.
According to reports, Aparti had been frequently taking money from his father for purchasing marijuana. When he sought money for marijuana on Saturday night, his father expressed his inability to give him cash. The accused got furious and allegedly hit his father with an iron rod, which resulted in Balunkeswar’s death on the spot.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The accused, who has been detained, is being interrogated by the police.
