Bhubaneswar: Agriculture Officer with Punjab National Bank, Barpali branch in Bargarh, Dibyaranjan Mishra, whose body was found by Sonepur police from Anga river on August 13, had committed suicide, the police said.
Mishra, according to the police was being blackmailed by a Rajasthan-based gang over an alleged nude video call, involving him. The bank officer had paid them around Rs 26 lakh in lieu of not exposing him. The fraudsters’ demands kept on rising which became unbearable for Mishra.
Fearing public shame, the man committed suicide, Sonepur SP Amresh Panda said, “We had received a complaint in which a Bolangir-based resident alleged that his son had committed suicide after falling prey to similar blackmailers. On the basis of this complaint, two Rajasthan-based accused Mehboob and Adil were arrested.
The duo confessed about the crime and admitted to have victimised Mishra as well because of which he was under stress and ended his life. His body was recovered with the help of ODRAF team from Anga River two days after the aforementioned case was filed, and the police established a connect in the two cases.
