SOP Issued To Prevent Covid Inside Jails In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services of the Odisha government today reinforced its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued last year to prevent the spread of Covid-19 inside prisons.

A circular issued by the DG Prisons today to the Superintendent of all jails in the State said that as per the SOP of the Home Department, anybody found positive for Covid-19 should be sent to the ‘Dedicated Covid Care Centre/ Dedicated Covid Health Centre/Dedicated Covid Hospital’ by the concerned remanding agencies like Police, Forest, Excise or Vigilance as the case may be for treatment with the permission of remanding courts.

They will be shifted to the jails after being recovered in ‘Dedicated Covid Care Centre/ Dedicated Covid Health Centre/Dedicated Covid Hospital’, the letter added.

The letter further said that all Covid positive prisoners should be sent to the nearest Covid Care Centres and critically ill patients (Covid) to Covid Care Hospitals.

The letter has clearly instructed that Covid positive cases should not be kept inside the jails.

All other instructions on SOP issued by the Government as well as guidelines issued during 2020 shall be followed, the letter added.
