Sorcery Suspicion: Double Murder In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: Two sorcery related deaths have been reported from Suklabhata village under Ambadola police limits of Rayagada district. The deceased have been identified as Makar Nayak and Karuna Nayak.

Reportedly, one of Karuna’s kin had succumbed to a disease few days back. However, Karuna had held Makar responsible for the death suspecting the latter of practising sorcery.

On Thursday evening, Karuna had a heated exchange with Makar at a field near the village and subsequently thrashed him with a wooden staff and bludgeoned him to death. Later, Karuna went round the village with the murder weapon declaring he has killed Makar.

On getting information, Makar’s brother Nakul Nayak along with some of his associates attacked Karuna with wooden staffs. As a result of which Karuna died on the spot.

After the incident came to light, police have seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Two separate cases have been registered at the Ambadola police station and Nakul has been arrested. He is being interrogated to find out details about other persons involved in the murder.
