Bhubaneswar: Southwest Monsoon has advanced over most parts of Malkangiri and Koraput district, and some parts of Gajpati district on Thursday, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a Tweet today.
According to the weather office, monsoon will set in the other parts of Odisha within one or two days as the prevailing weather conditions are perfect for the advancement of monsoon.
Meanwhile, heavy downpours lashed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and parts of coastal Odisha on Thursday afternoon bringing in the much-desired relief from the scorching heat. Meanwhile, pre-monsoon downpours inundated parts of Bhubaneswar this morning. The city recorded 59.8mm of rainfall by 11.30 am.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for 18 districts of Odisha today saying that the downpour is likely to continue for another few hours.
Moderate rain/thundershowers with one or two intense/heavy spells of rain are likely in Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Jajapur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Sambalpur within the next three hours.
