Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast favorable conditions for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of Odisha over the next two days.
This development is a positive sign for the full onset of the monsoon season in the state.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, the southwest monsoon is expected to advance into more regions of Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha within the next 48 hours.
The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, and heavy rainfall likely at one or two locations on June 15 in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
On June 16, a similar ‘Yellow’ warning has been issued for Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Koraput districts.
An ‘Orange’ warning has been announced for June 17 for thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (30-40 kmph), and heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts. The same day, a ‘Yellow’ warning has been declared for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput.
Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rainfall are also expected at one or two places across Odisha from June 18 to 19.
