Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha today issued a ruling in the House directing the State Government to look into the demands of the agitating primary school teachers.
The Speaker gave the ruling after holding an all-party meeting.
Earlier in the day, Opposition Congress and BJP members created pandemonium and stalled the Question Hour over the agitation by the primary teachers forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 11.30 AM.
As the House assembled for the day, Congress and BJP members rushed into the well of the House shouting slogans in support of the agitation of the teachers at the lower PMG Square which entered the second day today.
The Opposition members raised slogans near the Speaker’s podium justifying the demands of the teachers.
As slogan-shouting continued inside the well of the House the Speaker adjourned the House till 11.30 AM.
The Speaker convened an all-party meeting to resolve the issue when the House met after the adjournment.
Thousands of agitating primary school teachers have occupied the stretch of MG Road in front of the Odisha Assembly demanding the abolition of the contractual system, resumption old pension system, and increase in grade pay while counting their six years of teaching experience.
It is pertinent to mention here that the striking teachers have threatened not to leave MG Road till their demands are met by the government.
