Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), has launched a special drive targeting the use of illegal multi-toned pressure horns on Tuesday.
Traffic police have observed that numerous large vehicles, including motorcycles, line buses, and city buses, are using multiple multi-toned horns, contributing significantly to noise pollution in the city.
This excessive honking has become a major source of public nuisance.
“This drive aims to curb the growing problem of sound pollution caused by the unauthorised use of multi-toned horns. Such horns are prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Odisha Urban Police Act. Violators will be fined, and illegal horns will be confiscated,” said a traffic police official while speaking to reporters.
The official also emphasised that vehicle horns should remain unmodified as per legal standards. Additionally, the use of unauthorised RGB lighting on vehicles is strictly banned.
“Only standard horns and approved lighting are permitted under the Motor Vehicles Act. Any modifications will result in penalties,” he added.
The police have urged vehicle owners to comply with the regulations to ensure a quieter and safer environment for all citizens.
