Bhubaneswar: The Special Handloom Expo-2025, organized for Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), was inaugurated on Monday at Ekamra Haat in Bhubaneswar.
The event was inaugurated by Pranati Chhotray, Managing Director of Boyanika.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Bikramaditya Barik, Director of Textiles & Handlooms; Indira Behera, Special Officer of the Directorate of Textiles; Surya Narayan Pattnaik, Additional Director of Sericulture; Debjit Nandy, Joint Director of Textiles; and other senior officers from the department.
The Expo is being held under the “Promotion of Handloom Industry (POHI)” scheme for the year 2024-25, sponsored by the Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts Department of the Government of Odisha.
This Expo is a special initiative to empower women self-help groups (SHGs) from various districts including Bargarh, Cuttack, Sonepur, Athagarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Khordha, Baripada, Balasore, Berhampur, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Sundargarh. The Expo provides a platform for these groups to showcase and sell their handloom products, such as dress materials, fabrics, and home décor.
This will not only boost sales but also provide regular employment for the women weavers in these SHGs.
The Special Expo is being implemented by SADHAC, an autonomous organization under the Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts Department of the Government of Odisha.
The Expo serves as a common platform where customers can purchase handloom products from across the state at reasonable prices.
The Special Handloom Expo will be open to the public from February 24, 2025, to March 10, 2025, with daily timings from 11 am to 10 pm.
