Bhubaneswar: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is set to commence in Odisha from April 1, 2026, as announced by State Chief Electoral Officer R. S. Gopalan. This major exercise aims to ensure a fully transparent, accurate, and error-free voter list ahead of future elections.
Gopalan revealed that approximately 90% of the state’s voter list has already undergone revision through prior efforts. Of the remaining 10%, at least 8% is expected to be covered, with officials striving for 100% comprehensive updation. The SIR draws reference from the 2002 electoral rolls—the last intensive revision in the state—making it a thorough, ground-up verification after more than two decades.
Voters can facilitate the process by providing details such as their 2002 booth number or name from that year’s records. For those unable to link to the 2002 list, authorities will provide Form-11 to fill out and submit for inclusion or correction. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house verifications to map and update entries.
A key highlight is the strict rule against multiple entries: If a voter’s name appears in more than one place, they must retain it in only one location. Retaining duplicates is a punishable offense under election laws, Gopalan warned, urging citizens to report and rectify such cases.
Gopalan appealed to all electors to actively cooperate by verifying details and participating in the process for a cleaner democracy.
