Dhenkanal: A 45-year-old man was killed after being hit by a speeding tractor near Jawahar Chowk in the Meena Bazaar area under the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station in Dhenkanal town on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Ritik Tanna, also known as Gulu.
According to reports, the driver of an overspeeding tractor lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a roadside shop near Jawahar Chowk. Ritik, who was standing in front of the shop at the time, sustained critical injuries in the incident.
He was rescued by Fire Services personnel and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Town Police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. The tractor driver, identified as Sapani Dehury, has been detained by the police.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.
