Bhubaneswar: Three including two Bolbom devotees were mowed down by a speeding truck near Dimiria village on NH 16 in Khallikote on Saturday.
According to sources, the truck was on its way to Kolkata from Berhampur when it ran over two Bolbom devotees and a commuter and later it overturned. While two Bolbom devotees died on the spot, the commuter succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
The tragic mishap occurred when a truck carrying goods from Andhra Pradesh to Bhubaneswar lost control and overturned after hitting two Bolbom devotees and a labourer. Meanwhile, police have seized the truck and detained its driver for interrogation.
The Bolbom devotee killed in the mishap has been identified as Ranji Nayak of Banpur while the identity of another deceased Bolbom devotee is yet to be ascertained. Another elderly person who died in the accident is Banamali Patra, a local labourer. He was declared dead at Khalikote Hospital.
However, the truck driver miraculously escaped unhurt.
On a tip-off, police began an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The police are working to identify the unknown deceased and notify his family.
