Bhubaneswar:  In a shocking incident, a man killed his lover as the latter declined to elope with him leaving her husband. This incident took place at Jharana Slum under Capital Police limits in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Gitanjali alias Dipika, a resident of Jaleswar in Balasore district. Dipika was living with her husband Kunjabihiri Dutta at Bapuji Nagar. Dutta who runs a mobile repairing shop had engaged a carpenter named Kalu for his shop renovation work. Kalu had been staying in Dutta’s house for the last 20 days to look after renovation work. Both Kalu and Dipika are reported to have fallen in love with each other in the said period.

Kalu asked Dipika to elope with him so that they could live together. However, Dipika declined to leave her husband and elope with him. Enraged over it, Kalu reportedly stabbed Dipika when Dutta was busy at his mobile repairing shop. He fled the scene after committing the crime.

Dipika was rushed to Capital Hospital in critical condition. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Based on a complaint filed by Dipika’s husband, Capital Police registered a case in this connection and launched a manhunt to nab Kalu.
