Squally Weather To Prevail Off Odisha Coast: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has ruled out probability of cyclonegenesis off Odisha coast for the next five days, it has predicted that squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely to prevail along North West Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast for next 48 hours and has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Further, orange warning of thunder squall with lightning accompanied by heavy rain and hailstorm has been issued for several Odisha districts for the next few days. Thunderstorm with lightning and squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Sundergarh in 24 hours.

One or two places over the said districts along with districts of Deogarh and Kalahandi are to experience thunderstorm with lightning and hailstorm. Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the overall districts along with districts of Gajapati, Puri, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
