Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha has issued a directive to all District Collectors, instructing them to be prepared for any eventuality after a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression.
In light of the weather development, the SRC has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the North Odisha coast from July 25 to 28.
The district administrations have been asked to take necessary precautions and be ready to respond to any emergency that may arise. Additionally, the SRC has instructed the district collectors to keep the administrative machinery on high alert and report any untoward situation to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) immediately.
These precautionary measures aim to ensure the safety of fishermen and prevent any potential loss of life or property.
Going by IMD information, the depression lay centred over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh and was located about 130 km south of Mongla (Bangladesh), 150 km east-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 170 km southeast of Kolkata (West Bengal) as of 0530 hrs IST on July 25, 2025.
This system is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the forenoon of July 25, 2025. Thereafter, it is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha and Jharkhand during the subsequent 24 hours, bringing heavy rainfall to these regions.
