Bhubaneswar: Following the IMD’s warning about the likely formation of a fresh low pressure area over Central Bay of Bengal around October 19 which may enhance rainfall activity in some districts of Odisha, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued an advisory to Collectors on Saturday.
The IMD has predicted that after its formation on October 19, the low pressure area is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours. Under its influence, enhance rainfall activity with heavy to heavy heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some districts of Odisha between October 19 and 21.
Due to the likely formation of the low pressure area over Central Bay of Bengal, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely over Central Bay of Bengal from October 19 to 21. During the period, fishermen are advised to not venture into the deep sea areas of this region.
In view of the warning, SRC Pradeep Kumar Jena in an advisory to the Collectors stated that the rainfall could trigger flood in the river systems in the Southern districts. The possibility of landslides also cannot be ruled out.
Therefore, he asked the Collectors of all districts under the Southern Division to make advance planning and remain fully prepared to meet any eventuality arising out of flood or waterlogging and possible landslides in hilly areas.
Besides, Collectors of other districts were asked to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate action if required. Jena further stated that the advice for fishermen should be strictly implemented.
