SRC Asks Collectors To Immediately Sanction House Building Aid

Bhubaneswar: Collectors have been asked to immediately sanction house building assistance to persons whose houses have fully collapsed due to low pressure induced rains that lashed all the 30 districts of Odisha in the last two days.

“Collectors have been asked to sanction house building assistance to persons whose houses have fully collapsed”  informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha Pradip Kumar Jena briefing reporters here today.

On crop damage, the SRC further informed that Collectors will be sending assessment reports in due course of time and added that there have been no major waterlogging issues.

“Today I spoke to Collectors of Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri, who have said that there are no major water logging issues, however, they will be taking steps to find out if there has been any crop damage,” he said.

The SRC stated that he was yet to receive reports of any casualties due to the low pressure induced rains in the State in the last 24 hours.

Giving details of the rainfall received, Jena said: “In the last 24 hours all 30 districts in Odisha have received low pressure induced rains. As per reports available with us, by 8 in the morning today, eight districts have recorded more than 100 mm rainfall.”

He pointed out that in the last 24 hours Bhadrak district has recorded the maximum rainfall of 152 mm, Puri district 135 mm, Cuttack district 130 mm, Balasore district 128 mm, Jajpur district 128 mm, Khurda district 116 mm, Kendrapara district 104.06 mm and Jagatsingpur district 100 mm and added that other districts have received rainfall between 08-100 mm while the average for the State was 58 mm.

The SRC said that analysis of block-wise data reveals that three blocks have received rainfall above 200 mm.

“Binjharpur block in Jajpur district has received the highest 239.04 mm, Basudevpur in Bhadrak district stands second with 223 mm and Kanas in Puri district has received 206 mm. As many as 61 blocks have recorded above 100 mm rain,” Jena said.

In the last two days, 13 districts have cumulatively received above 100 mm rainfall and Bhubaneswar has cumulatively received around 253mm rain,” he added.
