Bhubaneswar: Given the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) ‘Orange’ and ‘Yellow’ alerts for thunderstorm activity with lightning at one or two places over several districts of Odisha and isolated heavy rainfall over few coastal districts during the next 24 hours, the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC’s) office has issued an advisory to all Collectors.
The IMD has issued ‘Orange Warning (Be Prepared)’ predicting thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri till 08.30 AM of Thursday.
Similarly, it has issued ‘Yellow Warning(To be updated)’ predicting thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj till 08.30 AM Of Thursday.
Accordingly, the SRC’s office in its advisory has asked the Collectors of districts under Yellow and Orange warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
The Collectors have been asked to advise people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.
The Collectors have been asked to submit a report on the damage due to thunderstorms, whirlwinds, hailstorms, and lightning immediately for information of the government.
