Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has approved the “SAMRUDHA SAHAR” Scheme, a landmark initiative aimed at promoting planned urbanisation and balanced regional development across the state. This scheme is part of the Vikshit Odisha 2036 Vision and is designed to transform cities into dynamic growth hubs and engines of economic progress.
The scheme has two key components: the Town Planning Scheme and Cities as Growth Hubs. The Town Planning Scheme, with an allocation of Rs. 4,114 crores, focuses on assembling and reconstituting land in peri-urban areas to enable planned urban growth, providing essential urban infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and solid waste management.
The Cities as Growth Hubs component, with an investment of Rs. 765.30 crores, aims to position urban areas as centres of economic transformation by supporting the development of integrated economic clusters, industrial townships, and high-potential urban corridors.
With a total outlay of Rs. 4,879.30 crores, the “SAMRUDHA SAHAR” initiative is expected to improve infrastructure, urban governance, and create new avenues for employment, private sector investment, and industrial expansion, ultimately contributing to Odisha’s goal of becoming a developed state by 2036.
