Jharsuguda: The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued the notification for the by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency, thereby setting in motion the model election code in the region.
Addressing a press meet, Kishore Chandra Swain, Additional District Collector and Deputy Election Officer, Jharsuguda, said “The notification for by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency has been issued today. Candidates can submit their nomination papers from 11.00 am today (Thursday).”
The last date for filing the nomination papers is April 20, while scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on April 21. The last date for withdrawing nominations is April 24.
Sunil Kumar Meher is the Returning Officer for the Jharsuguda Assembly by-election.
Meanwhile, the state EC has swung into full action after the publication of the notification today morning. Arrangements are being made to take the EVMs from the district-level EVM & VVPAT warehouse to the strong rooms of the Engineering School under tight security. Voting will take place in 253 booths across the constituency on May 10, Swain informed.
It is worth mentioning here that the by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency was necessitated following the murder of former Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29.
The BJD has nominated Naba Kishore Das’ daughter Dipali Das as its nominee for the seat, while Tankadhar Tripathy is the BJP candidate for the seat. Congress has fielded Tarun Pandey for the seat. The three contestants will make their electoral debut in the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency by-poll.
