Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) today set timelines for preparations to hold panchayat elections in Odisha.
State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi today discussed in detail preparations for the upcoming panchayat election with Collectors of all districts through video conferencing, said an official press release.
The State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhithrough a letter to all Collectors on October 4 has directed to complete delimitation of wards and reservation of seats in their respective districts for panchayat elections and submit the list by October 26.
The Collectors have been asked to send these lists in specified Pro-forma through special messenger to the SEC by October 26.
Ballot boxes to be used in the panchayat election were discussed during the meeting.
The Commissioner took stock of the availability of ballot boxes in each district and asked Collectors to repair and paint the same.
An amount of Rs 1.16 crore has been provisioned to the districts for the purpose and Collectors have been directed to complete it by November 15.
The Commission has published a set of rules in detail for counting of ballots after polling.
This time counting of ballots in the panchayat polls will be held at the block headquarters. The SEC has asked all Collectors to study the set of rules with regard to the counting of ballots.
The Commission directed Collectors for identifying and keeping in readiness ballot counting centres at the block headquarters.
The Commission has despatched the voters’ list published in January 2021 for the Assembly constituency for the purpose of panchayat elections. The Commission has directed for preparing voters list for panchayat elections in the districts.
The Commission has apprised the Collectors through letters to appoint Election Registration Officers for panchayat elections and complete it by October 25.
The Commission has asked Collectors to identify polling booths for panchayat elections and complete the same by November 5. Collectors have been directed to construct polling booths wherever no such booths exist.
The Commission has issued an order for purchasing ballot box cover at the district level which is to be completed by November 30. The Commission has made it clear to follow necessary instructions while doing the same.
