Bhubaneswar: Even as Cyclone Murasu moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast for landfall, the Koraput district administration has ordered the closure of a vulnerable stretch of State Highway-48 between Borigumma and Raniguda as a precautionary measure.
As per reports, the administration ordered the closure after continuous rainfall loosened soil and triggered mud and rock fall from the adjoining hills, posing a risk to commuters. The stretch had also witnessed landslides following heavy rainfall last month.
Commuters have been advised to avoid the Borigumma-Raniguda section and take National Highway-326 instead till the situation improves and further orders are issued.
The move comes amid an IMD warning for Koraput district in view of the cyclonic system Murasu. The weather office has forecast heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds on Monday. Wind speed is likely to be 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph at isolated places.
