Bhubaneswar: The Hockey Association of Odisha State Junior Men Hockey Championships are being organized at KIIT University and Kalinga Stadium from September 18-23, 2022.
Over 500 players from districts, academies, and institutions are participating in the championship. The teams are lined up in a knockout format with the eventual winner becoming the first ever Junior Men Champion.
The State Level Championship is being organized for the first time and has gotten record participation with 28 district teams and 2 academy and institution teams participating in the tournament.
The first three days of the championship saw some closely contested matches. The details match results are as follows.
Day 1 (September 18, 2022):
Match 1: Sahid Madho Singh Hockey Academy (6 – 0) Gajapati
Match 2: Ganjam (5-0) Malkangiri
Match 3: Deogarh (6-0) Kendrapada
Match 4: Subarnapur (5-0) Balasore
Match 5: Jajpur (0-0) Rayagada, Jajpur won the game 2-1 in sudden death after being tied 3-3 in shootout
Match 6: Khordha (2-0) Mayurbhanj
Match 7: Dhenkanal (5-0) Koraput
Day 2 (September 19, 2022):
Match 8: Sambalpur (4-0) Puri
Match 9: Nabrangpur (7-1) Cuttack
Match 10: Balangir (0-0) Bargarh, Balangir won the games 2-1 in sudden death after being tied 2-2 in shootout
Match 11: Jharsuguda (5-0) Bhadrak
Match 12: Angul (6-0) Nuapada
Match 13: Nayagarh (5-1) Keonjhar
Match 14: Jagatsinghpur (1-0) Kalahandi
Day 3 (September 20, 2022):
Match 15: Sahid Madho Singh Hockey Academy, Sambalpur (7-0) Ganjam
Match 16: Angul (2-1) Balangir
Match 17: Sundargarh (10-0) Jajpur
Match 18: Sambalpur (7-0) Nabrangpur
Match 19: Dhenkanal (7-0) Subarnapur
Match 20: Jharsuguda (8-0) Nayagarh
Match 21: KITT/KISS (8-0) Jagatsinghpur
Match 22: Khordha v Deogarh, match not completed
Speaking on the championship, Chairman Hockey Promotion Council, Dilip Tirkey said, “I am delighted with the response from all the districts and their love for hockey. Having 28 districts participating in a hockey tournament in Odisha is unprecedented. We can clearly see that hockey is not limited to just Sundargarh but the whole of Odisha has adopted the game with open arms. I wish the players all the best for the quarterfinals and I am sure there’s a lot of exciting action left to be seen on the field.”
The tournament will look to scout talent that will represent Odisha at the next Hockey India National Championships in 2023.
The quarterfinals of the tournament are scheduled to be held on September 21, 2022, from 2:30 PM onwards at KIIT University. The quarterfinals lineups are as follows.
