Bhubaneswar: State Level Millets Essay and Quiz Competitions were held as part of the International Convention on Millets.
Organised by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha at the Janata Maidan, here with the aim to create awareness about millets within students, the theme of the competition was “Millets – Ancient Grains for Modern Challenges”, a befitting event to mark International Year of Millets 2023.
Students from 30 districts had participated in Suravi Competition related to Millets Quiz and Millets Essay Competition earlier.
The winners from the District level competitions participated in the State level competition. Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) was the anchoring agency for this competition. Prof Amaresh Khuntia, OUAT, Dr Susmita Behera, Asso. Prof, Berhampur University and Bishnu Charan Sutar, JD, OSEPA were jury members while the objective of the competition was to create awareness about nutritional benefit of millets among students.
The participants discussed the importance of millets and its consumption. The jury members presented the background, aim and objective of International Year of Millets.
The competition focussed on creating awareness on nutritional and health benefits among the students. The students were encouraged about the importance of inclusion of Millets in regular diet.
