Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Women & Child Development Minister Pravati Parida on Wednesday visited the State Institute of Woman and Children (SIWC) under the Women & Child Development (W&CD) Department.
Parida launched ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ under the aegis of the W&CD Department by planting a sapling each of Jamun and Indian Gooseberry (Amla) at the premises of SIWC.
Speaking on the occasion Parida said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s farsighted programme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ has become very popular throughout the country.
She opined to plant trees in the name of one’s mother keeping in view the future of the next 50 years.
Highlighting the usefulness of the banyan tree Parida advised voluntary organisations to plant more and more banyan trees.
Deputy Chief Minister Parida inaugurated badminton and volleyball courts and a yoga centre at the premises of the SIWC.
She expressed hope that these steps will help in developing the skills of ICDS functionaries, supervisors and Anganwadi workers undergoing training at the SIWC.
Later, chairing a meeting of the Non-Government Organisations Advisory Council, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that the State Social Welfare Board will be revamped.
She said that the role of the Social Welfare Board in the development of the State is very crucial. The Social Welfare Board can be effectively managed through partnerships between the government and voluntary organisations.
Parida has sought proposals from NGOs and voluntary organisations for revamping the Social Welfare Board.
Principal Secretary W&CD Department Shubha Sarma discussed proposals and suggestions received from representatives of organisations from districts. Sarma said that a committee will decide on the revamping of the Social Welfare Board.
Director Social Welfare Board and ICDS Monisa Bannerjee, senior officers of the Department and representatives of voluntary organisations were present.
