Sundargarh: In a worst instance of ‘step-motherly treatment’, a woman recently tied a 5-year-old son from her husband’s first marriage to a stone and dumped him in a well in Lathitkata block of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

According to reports, the accused Nauri Gudiya (20) wanted to get rid of the child from her husband’s first marriage and, hence, decided to get rid of him. On October 11, taking advantage of her husband Fransis Gudia’s absence from the house, she tied the child to a stone and threw him in a well. On the following day, she approached the Raghunathpalli police station in Sundargarh to register a ‘missing’ report.

Acting on her complaint, the Raghunathpalli police launched an investigation and found the child’s body fastened to a concrete chunk with eyes covered with a cloth floating in a well near the complainant’s house. Subsequently, the police detained Nauri Gudiya for interrogation. During the interrogation, Nauri broke down and confessed her crime. The police arrested her on October 15.
