Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch has arrested two notorious drug peddlers from Balasore and seized around 300 grams of brown sugar from them. The raid took place on Monday near ITI Chowk on NH 16. The accused have been identified as Sk Haider of Arada Bazar area in Saadevkhunta and Tanmaya Bhuyan of Police Line area.
Apart from the contraband, Rs 2.22 lakh in cash, a bullet motorcycle, three mobile phones, debit cards, and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession, Crime Branch ADG, Soumendra Priyadarshi said today.
Addressing a presser, Priyadarshi said, “The raid was conducted on the basis of an intelligence input specifying the movement of these two peddlers in the area. The accused could not produce any document supporting the possession of the contraband, following which they were arrested.”
They have been booked under Section 21 (c) and 29 of the NDPS Act. The duo was produced in the court of Balasore District and Sessions Judge and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
During last 20 days, the STF has conducted raids at various places in Puri, Balasore, Angul, khurda, Pipili, Dhenkanal, Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak area and registered eight cases against drug peddlers. So far, 19 persons have been arrested and 818 grams of brown sugar, 326.45 grams of opium, cash of Rs 13.20 lakh, one car, eight motor bikes, and other incriminating materials have been seized.
